Prior to a skydiver donning their
gear they carefully inspect it to
assure its airworthiness, secure in
the knowledge that the packer has
not inadvertently packed in a bag
lock ,line dump, or 20 line twists.
The group of jumpers then gather at
the loading area and engage in
general grabass (except for those
who actually intend to turn some
points and are practicing) until
time to board the aircraft. Upon
seating themselves the jumpers put
on seatbelts and their helmets and
engage in grabass on the climb to
altitude while noxious green fumes
from the release of lower intestinal
gas’s due to the drop in atmospheric
pressure fill the cabin. On the jump
run the pilot turns on the green
light at which time the jumpers exit
the aircraft like lemmings off a
cliff trusting to blind luck that
the pilot has released them over the
proper spot. During freefall the
jumpers engage in organized grabass
(except those that are actually
trying to turn points) until break
off altitude at which point they
track off in opposite directions to
gain horizontal separation, and are
supposed to wave their arms to
indicate their intent to pull but
seldom do. Upon opening the jumpers
fly their canopies to the landing
area to execute a graceful stand up
landing which more often than not
results in a butt slide, face plant
or crash and burn. The jumpers
then return to the packing area,
talk about what a great jump they
had and indulge in grabass. This
revelry doe’s not include those that
landed miles out (Remember green
light and lemmings?) and have had to
avoid bulls, dogs, cowpatties, mud
and angry farmer Jones and after
having climbed numerous barbed wire
fences are standing at the side of
the road hoping some one will come
get them instead of having to
walk back. (good case for cell
phone).
